The Mental Focus Technique for Golf

Step 1:  Find a quiet place to relax for about 5 minutes.

Step 2: Take a few, slow deep breaths.

Step 3: Close eyes to block out distractions.  Let your body relax.  Imagine yourself at your favorite golf course.  Incorporate as many senses as you can into this visualization of your golf course.  It can be a real or imagined golf course.

Step 4: Imagine your are standing on the tee box.  There is a bucket of new golf balls with numbers 25 – 1 printed on the balls.  Vividly imagine picking up golf ball #25 and teeing up.

Step 5: Visualize yourself executing your perfect swing and striking the ball right on the sweet spot.  Watch the ball perfectly hit your target.  Allow mental and physical relaxation to increase.

Step 6: When the ball hits your TARGET, declare in your mind an anchor keyword (YES, Confident, Perfection).  This will become your trigger word for success.

Step 7: Pick up the next ball and repeat the same process.  Imagine yourself executing the perfect swing and hitting the target.   Make sure every mental shot you hit is perfect.   State your keyword!

Step 8: Continue the process until you have successfully hit all 25 golf balls perfectly in your mind.

Step 9: Now repeat a positive suggestion to yourself a minimum of 10 times to program your mind for success in any area.   For example (Every day and in every way I am getting better and better at golf.)

Step 10: Take a few deep breaths to energize your body and mind.   Then count from 1 to 3 and open your eyes.

This exercise should take about 3 to 5 minutes to complete.
